POLICY CHANGE EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2010 – All residents of the West Memphis Public Library service area must have a library card in order to reserve and use the computers.

Patron Responsibility: The library does not monitor and has no control over the information on the internet.

Parental Responsibility: Web sites which are recommended by staff have been checked for appropriate content, but it is impossible for staff to monitor the web as a whole. It is strongly urged that parents preview web sites and monitor their children when they are on-line.

Usage Restrictions: The use of the internet is restricted to research. This includes educational, business and personal information needs, but not recreational ones. Pornographic and other offensive sites are specifically excluded.

Electronic mail accounts (E-mail) are not made available to patrons, although individuals who have e-mail accounts may check them at the library within the other usage guidelines. E-mail received for patrons will not be saved or printed. The library also does not permit the use of Internet relay chat and news groups.

Printing: Printing is permitted at the rate of $.15 per page. Documents print to a laser printer at the circulation desk and must be paid for at the time they are retrieved from the clerk. Patrons will be charged for every page they print.

Age Limits: No age limit is imposed. However, a child under the age of 10 must be supervised by a parent or other responsible adult and minors 10 and over must have a permission statement signed by a parent or legal guardian. The library staff does not monitor or supervise the internet sessions of children. This is a parental responsibility.

Staff Assistance: Staff will introduce a new user to the internet and assist briefly in beginning the search. Staff involvement normally will be limited to about 10 minutes, and will be provided only as time permits.

Other: No more than two computers may be in use at any time for educational games.

Interlibrary Loan

Upon written request, WMPL will attempt to borrow any book not in our holdings from another library, providing the book is at least six months old.
